KAPPA ALPHA PI
PRE-LAW PROFESSIONAL FRATERNITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS - URBANA CHAMPAIGN
SERVICE

Service Overview
"The Service Pillar is dedicated to giving back to the greater community and fostering meaningful engagement through philanthropy, fundraising, and diversity initiatives, reflecting our broader commitment to serving others as aspiring legal professionals. The Philanthropy Committee emphasizes sustainability and community engagement by partnering with local organizations, including animal shelters, children’s wellness organizations, and community shelters. Additionally, the committee organizes donation drives and hands-on outreach efforts that reinforce our chapter’s dedication to service. The Fundraising Committee supports these efforts by planning fundraising events to raise funds for a charitable organization selected each semester. The Diversity Committee upholds our values of inclusivity by promoting cultural awareness and appreciation through events and programming designed to embrace and support individuals within the organization and the broader community."

Alyson Lanski, Pillar VP
Philanthropy
Committee
The Philanthropy Committee is responsible for organizing and executing all service and charitable initiatives within Kappa Alpha Pi. Our purpose is to promote community engagement, foster social responsibility, and strengthen our chapter’s commitment to giving back. The committee also aims to promote sustainability and use our resources to support the community around us. As aspiring lawyers, our involvement in philanthropy aligns with KAP’s broader mission of serving the greater community and preparing students to lead with purpose, both on their path to law school and beyond.

Diversity
Committee
The Diversity Committee is responsible for promoting diversity within KAP, the University of Illinois community, and the legal field as a whole. The committee hosts events that celebrate or educate people about different cultures and traditions. These include cultural potlucks, and cultural holiday celebrations like the Lunar New Year Celebration or Soul Food Cooking Class. Each semester, they host a mandatory Anti-Bias training and other workshops for members to identify and mitigate unconscious bias. Overall, the committee promotes inclusion and diversity within KAP.

Fundraising
Committee
The Fundraising Committee hosts fundraising events, often in collaboration with local organizations, to raise money for a charity that we decide to support every semester. The committee's most iconic event is Pie-A-Kap, where people can donate to pie a KAP member. All proceeds from our fundraising events go toward our philanthropic efforts. This past semester, we donated to the Coalition for Juvenile Justice, an organization that works to keep children and youth out of the court system. This committee plays a key role in demonstrating KAP's commitment to supporting our local community through meaningful fundraising efforts.
